There's No Place Like Home is a non-profit faith-based organization that was created in 2006. It is made up of a group of volunteers who seek to show the love of God to others by providing homes to those who have lost them through natural or catastrophic disasters. The project was inspired a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast states. Pastor Bernie Quinn of Grace Community Church in Rochester, NH, gave a heart felt call to the congregation to think of ways to help the victims of the Hurricane. First, there was a tractor-trailer owner who drove truckloads of food and supplies donated by the church and community to Cut Off, LA. Then another truckload went to Biloxi, Miss. along with volunteers who went to help with counseling and clean up. A call for volunteers to go down during the Thanksgiving break was given to help with the rebuilding. Brian Patterson, a member of Grace Community Church, approached Pastor Bernie Quinn about having the students at Somersworth Building Trades build a modular home and send it to a family in Louisiana. Pastor Bernie and the building trades students enthusiastically agreed to the project. The LaBeouf family, Miss Rose Collins, and the Herod family have been three well deserving family recipients. June 2006, Ray and Doreen LaBeouf and family recieved the first 'No Place Like Home' house. In April, 2007 Miss Rose recieved the secone house. In October 2007, Gary, Kelly and Elizabeth received the third house. For their full stories, click on 'Families' on the navigation bar.' "There's No Place Like Home" was formed by Grace Community Church to facilitate the raising of funds for these houses and the many more to come. | ||
